Egyptian theatre, cinema and TV star Mohamed Henedy is preparing for a new stand-up comedy show entitled ‘Henedy Live,’ which will be staged in various known theaters in 20 different countries.
“This will be my first time to introduce the stand-up comedy form I wanted to do for years due to my passion for the theatre. Theatre was always the beginning of everything for me. I hope it would fulfil the fans’ expectations,” the 54-year-old comedian said in a press conference this week.
The first step for Henedy Live will be at the Beacon Theater at New York’s Madison Square Garden on 22 September before moving on to tours in Canada, Australia, Europe and Asia, as well as a Middle East tour that starts with Saudi Arabia and moves to the UAE and Kuwait in late October.
“It will be great to meet the Arab crowd all over the world,” he expressed.
Henedy will be accompanied by Egyptian actress Nada Moussa and Lebanese musician and singer Chadi Nachef .
“I am very excited for this experience. Being featured with Henedy is quite historic for me,” said the known musician, adding that “merging music with comedy aims to communicate with the crowd’s hearts in such an exceptional language.”
A pioneer of comedy in Egyptian movies in the 1990s, Henedy dominated the scene after his breakout hit Saidi Fi El-Gamaa El-Amrikiya (An Upper Egyptian at the American University).
He also starred in many hit plays such as Hazemny Ya, Alabanda, and Afrotto.
Henedey ended 16 years of absence from the theater this year with his latest theatre box office record-breaker ‘Talat Ayam Fi El-Sahel’ (Three Days on the North Coast) at the Cairo Show Theatre in 6 October City.
